When Disney bought much of News Corp 20th Century Fox, they got the Fox Sports Regional channels for a short stink but were forced to sell these channels because they are Disney, which owns ESPN, and the government said they have enough sports already. So Disney found a buyer, Sinclair broadcast group which paid $10 Billion for the channels across much of the country.
Sinclair then started negotiating, likely for more money, with cable companies and others. Many new cable alternatives like Sling TV and Fubo TV said no to Fox Sports Regional by parting ways with them. Now Youtube TV is passing on Fox Sports Regionals as well citing concerns of high cost of sports programming.
Likely these channels may make it’s way back to the services that dropped their channels, but unlike old school cable days where this dispute might be a short period of time, the “skinny bundle” steaming only cable alternatives all seem almost happy to leave some channels off their lineup to keep it’s costs down.
Currently if you are interested in Fox Sports Regionals as your primary channel deciding factor, at the time of this writing Hulu w/Live TV still has these channels including YES Network.
This dispute has not effected other Sinclair channels like local broadcast and Stadium or Tennis Channel.
